The latest installment in Assassin’s Creed game is calledOdyssey and is set in Ancient Greece as we suspected from the leaks. The game is set circa 431 BCE, or around during the Peloponnesian War which is highly popular as it was against Athens and Sparta. Unlike, the past games, the new installment will have more role-playing elements and will let players choose what they want their character to speak.
Assassin Creed Origins which was set in Egypt introduced more role-playing elements and systems. In Odyssey, players will have the ability to customize their gear as well as their character’s abilities. The game will also feature dialogue trees similar to BioWare’s Mass Effect series and this time you can enjoy some cool romance with non-player characters (this is quite fun, right?)
Players this time are given the choice of playing as either Alexios or Kassandra, who are two descendants of the legendary Spartan KingLeonidas, serving as the player's avatar for the entire game. The game offering a female protagonist for the second time.
“I feel that the franchise can grow,” says Cote.
“And for me, it has grown to be something that is not about the hood, it is not about the blade. For us, the most important part of Assassin’s Creed is that you visit a pivotal moment in our history, and this is what we’re allowing you to do. This is at the core.
The other thing [...] is this kind of combat between order and chaos, and it is absolutely at the center of the stories —plural — that you will find in the game.”
Whether you play as Alexios or Kassandra it doesn’t matter because you won’t be an assassin at least during the start of the game. That means no white robe or hidden blade or peaked hoodies and also assassinations this time is a just small piece of gameplay rather than the mainline.
If you remember playing Syndicate where you were able to switch between the characters
Evie and Jacob Fyre and their different abilities as the situation warranted, you won’t have to do it in Odyssey because Alexios and Kassandra are on a totally equal footing which means both are strong and depending on what you choose will shape them.
The game is first in the series to offer multiple endings as this is quite popular in RPG games since you can choose your answers you can experience what happens if you choose the other.
Looks like Assassin Creed is shifting from Assassination to full-time RPG as Odyssey is offering you to choose your own answers, customizing skills, abilities and armors, etc
Though it’s entirely possible that Odyssey will be moving back to its old habits or that the new changes won’t turn out to be very good.
Well, we can only wait for the time it’s released to know whether the changes or good or Nah but after years of moving through the same assassination setting, it’s great to see that Assassin’s Creed is up to something new.
Also, a quick news that the story of Layla Hassan that began in Origins will be continued in Odyssey.
